this is the latest series i've finished and it's called "prostitutes". i spent hours walking up and down on the streets of santiago at nighttime looking for girls working. i was really surprised and happy to see they were so nice to me. with some of them i talked a lot about our families and also about being an foreign in this country and we even ended up hugging with a lot of affection in the moment of saying good bye.
"Prostitution is legal in Chile and buying the service as well. Most of the people working in the business are from other countries such as Ecuador and Colombia. Some of them have family, even a husband and few months old baby she's still breastfeeding.
This is a series of portraits of women and transvestites working as prostitutes on the streets of Santiago."
This is such a powerful series, Etta! It takes a lot of guts to be able to go through something like that!
ReplyDeletethank you so much polly! yes, i'm really proud of myself for doing that.
DeleteWow, Etta! As Polly said, these pictures are really powerful. It must have been very interesting, to ask those women to share their stories with you, I'm sure they were all different from each other.
ReplyDeletethank you zu! i'm so glad you liked them. they really had some interesting stories to share and were very curious about mine.
DeleteOlet tosi rohkea ja lahjakas! Voimakkaita kuvia, ja niiden takana voimakas kuvaaja.
ReplyDeletekiitos martta! ihanasti sanottu :)
ReplyDeletenice series. i wonder if the blurry concept means anything? x
ReplyDeletethank you sydney! actually it was about their kind of anonymity as they never use their own names and that way conserve a little bit of anonymity.
DeleteHieno sarja - hieno tarina. Koskettaa näiden naisten elämä ja mahdolliset tarinat. Ei kukaan ole kasvoton, vaikka kuuluisi joukkoon.
ReplyDeletekiitos paljon maahiska! koko projekti oli kokemuksena todella vaikuttava.
